I regret not reading this book as soon as it came out. The original Kannada book was an exceptional bestseller. Some day it will be made into a major movie or tv series. Remarkably it also exposed the intellectual yet idiots who tried to target Bhairappa in many ways for this book leading to it getting even more popular and making the general public like it very much.

Instead of engaging in virtue signalling or white washing history Bhairappa writes it in a tone familiar to anyone who has lived in south India or especially Karnataka.

The book might be called a veil but it is actually unveiling of something very very complex. One person found this helpful. Outstanding, engaging, incredibly stimulating intellectually as well as morally. SL Bhyrappa has established himself as a fabulous story teller – his technique of weaving stories within stories and relaying timelines with current events is simply brilliant.

He has tackled the issues of religious conflict in India over centuries with a greater ease than any other contemporary Indian writer – all this while being unbiased and basing his novel of historic truths.

The greater purpose of art is to reveal a truth and SL Bhyrappa has achieved that in his novel. It doesnt matter how much the “secular” historians criticize him, his work will go down in contemporary Indian literature as one of the best even kwnnada the mainstream media fails to acknowledge his crucial contributions.

In an ideal academic setting different ideas are encouraged to, at least allowed to contest against one another with reason and evidence. Students are allowed to make up their minds after weighing arguments all the sides present.

Avarrana Indian academic setting is far from ideal; it’s rigged in the name of political correctness, and completely colonized by Communists who call themselves “liberal” and “progressive” to sound less npvel than facts all along History suggest about them.

Nothing has oppressed post WW2 world than the followers of Mao and Stalin. Today, in the world that is terrorized by Islamic theology in action, commies are globally in cahoots with Jehadis in name of all good intentions, paving the road to hell for all of us.

And they are natural partners because both promise utopia after bloodbath. And they control academia and media and vote-bank politics. In these circumstances, seeking truth in textbooks or newspapers is an an exercise in futility, to say the least. One has to look around, and keep looking around, hoping to get lucky.

And one must feel lucky with this book in one’s hands. All I would say about this book is this – this is a work of great courage and urgency.

ಆವರಣ [Aavarana]

The good news is this – this book has not been banned as yet, and reading it is enjoyable, if not kannadq. I had heard about S. Bhyrappa’s books a lot, even started reading a book written by him, in Kannada. But I was too slow to read in Kannada.

The moment I got to know about Avarana being translated by Sandeep B, I went ahead and placed a preorder. And, I am glad I did it. Its a book every single Indian or even non-Indians should read, to get an understanding of why India is in a state that it is in right now, when it avxrana to Religion, Politics and everything in between.

I have gifted a few avarsna to some of my friends, and I’ll certainly gift this book to any girl in India I know, is going to marry a person practicing an another religion. Not out of spite, but because it holds some valuable lessons to every one involved in an inter-religion marriage.

I’ll read the original Kannada version of Avarana soon. Sandeep B has done an amazing avaraan, in translating the book and ensuring that the reader is deeply engrossed in the novel. One of the greatest novels I have ever read! I was introduced to Dr. Little did I know then that he was a prolific writer held in high regard by Kannadigas and other Indians.

Through Lakshmi’s story and experiences, Dr. Bhyrappa also gives us an insight into what he, the sole voice of truth in a pack of hungry and conniving wolves, might be facing on a regular basis. I can’t even imagine what he must be going through on a daily basis, simply because he believes in Satyam Shivam Sundaram.

This is more than just a novel. This is an absolute tour de force on the realities of a period of Indian history, woven beautifully into the life and work of the protagonist.

Aavarana – Wikipedia

The hard truths revealed will shake your conscience. You will emerge, with clearer vision grounded in reality. Extensive research by the author, engaging narration and crisp translation are all positives. A brilliantly written book.

The author Bhyrappa avaranna his characteristic style makes the reader go with him on a journey, almost knowing exactly what the reader is thinking while reading the book.

A lot has been said about the ideological nature of the book, but it is meritorious purely as a novel. The characters have a lot of depth and many layers. I finished it in two days. Best Historical fiction I have ever read. Aptly describes the social scenario during Mughal India.

I wonder why this is never taught in our History books despite having documented evidence of the facts. See all 35 reviews.
