If you are new avld Avid Media Composer, here’s a simple tutorial that demonstrates three basic fundamentals within Avid Media Composer. Learn how to create a freeze frame camera flash effect directly within Avid Media Composer. This is an excellent tutorial that you may find useful within a ‘highlight reel’ or ‘promo video’. Start by editing a single clip to an empty sequence.

Find a place in the timeline where you would like your clip segment to freeze. Navigate to jewscutter fast menu in the lower middle area of the Composer window and tear off the tool palette.

Click on the match frame button. This will match the frame from the timeline into the source side of the Composer window.

In Avid Media Composer you can only create freeze frames from the source window, which is why this match frame button is so important. It’s probably a good idea to create an Avid keyboard shortcut for creating a match framewhich I cover in a different Media Composer Tutorial.

Navigate to the clip menu and choose freeze frame 1 second. Select a media drive for the new freeze frame and press okay.

Then select a bin for the new freeze frame clip that’s going to be created and press okay. Avid will automatically load the new freeze frame clip into the source window for you. Since I chose a one second freeze frame, you will see a one second freeze frame clip loaded into the source window. Notice the freeze frame clip has tfaining different clip icon to differentiate it from the original clip.

In the bottom right corner of the source window, click on the yellow splice-in button.

This will splice in the freeze frame based on the location of the blue position indicator. Next, let’s add a dip to white transition. Move the position indicator just before the left side of the frozen clip segment.

Within the Quick Transition Dialogue Box, uncheck any audio tracks, so Avid only trainung the transition to video track 1. Click on the transition pull-down menu and choose Dip To Color.

However, instead of black, we want white. For reasons specific to this tutorial, make sure the blue position indicator remains on the left side of the transition point.

Do newschtter place it on the right side. Navigate to the upper left corner of the timeline toolbar and press the effect editor button. Within the Effect Editor Window, double click on the black box for the background color. Within the Select Color Dialogue Box, slide the saturation slider all the way over to the left, and then press ok.

We now have a dip to white transition. The last step is to add a camera newscuter sound effect onto the audio tracks below. You should now have a camera flash freeze frame effect.
