There is Victor, her boyfriend for quite a while, who is dying with leukemia. Then there is Gordon, the new fresh man that makes Hilary second guess her relationship with Victor. It is about two affairs; Gordon being a secret. How do you break somebody’s heart when they’re already dying? Who does she really love, care for?

Who does she want to stay with? Let’s start with the positive things. I really liked the premise of the book. It seems overdone, but the way the author wrote it, it seemed fresh and more complicated than usual. The author writes perfectly.

His style is poetic and lyrical, Leimbch really enjoyed reading his words. And in every end of the chapter, he leaves you with this lingering feeling of either surprise, hope, or just plain sadness. I also really liked all three characters. You get to know them more in every single chapter you read, and you find yourself rooting for each of them. It’s not often you find leimgach you like all at the same time.

I really thought that Estelle’s character was pointless. I could have lived without her haha. Also, Victor’s father was a bit pointless as well. I know his purpose in the story and all, but nothing really happened.

No resolution whatsoever, at least in my opinion. Yonug ending left me feeling wanting for more, and I marhi for some people they see this as a good thing.

Sometimes, it can be a good thing, but I just didnt feel like it was in this situation.

Marti Leimbach – Wikipedia

It was a little bit too ambiguous for me. I find the character of Victor, the young man stricken with lukemia, wonderfully three-dimensional and all in all very impressive. In the book, Leimbach really doesn’t make an effort to properly describe the other characters in the story.

Instead, she focuses on Hilary, a character who is not interesting or complex enough to justify the entire book being narrated by her. I can completely understand why Richard Friedenberg made the choices he did when he wrote the screenplay for the movie. The incidences in the mari are skewered by Leimbach’s fumbling, underdeveloped style. It would have been so much better if Leimbach had at least written in third-person, so the reader could get a sense of each individual character.

I found Leimbach’s style of writing particulary annoying. Too much first-person set in the wrong tense distroys this book. I did get a few interesting quotes out of the story, but all in all, don’t bother to buy it. Rent the movie instead. I liked this book because Victor who has leukemia and who has, against the advice of family, friends and doctors, discontinued chemotherapy is presented as a complex human yonug.

Victor is unsure of his own feelings about death or even whether he wishes to die. Throughout the book, he alternately romantices, embraces and fears death. Victor is, at once, afraid to die and afraid to live. He is very human.

Aware that a bone-marrow transplant would offer hope, he reasons that it would probably not be worth the pain. Victor defies the phrase “brave fight against terminal illness” Leimbch watched the movie and quickly fell in love with Campbell Scott Victor. I also realized that I needed to read the book because so much of the story was not developed. For instance victor’s father’s character was made to be irrelevant. Estelle’s character was more of youmg filler than a real person.

Gordon’s role was shown as bits and pieces making his character almost irrelevant too. I have seen better from Julia Roberts but she was a marfi as one can be considering the premise of her role. Also most of the dialogue could be rewritten for a more sophisticated audience.

Now the good part: Each scene was made so much better by his presence. He had the ability to make some of the dialogue sound so smart.

Campbell is a very capable actor. This story should have been made into a series to allow better development of each character. All in all it’s a good rainy Sunday movie. Now I will order the book which I’m sure will answer most of my questions. One person found this helpful. See all 4 reviews. There’s a problem loading this menu right now.
